We are throwing a bridal brunch for my daughter it will be held outside. We are getting a few of those chafing dishes that can be kept warm with sterno. Any items that need to be kept cold we are planning to put the actual food in tin liners then set into the actual chafing dishes that have ice in the bottom. We went to a local restaurant that held brunches on Sunday to get ideas for the food choices or you can simply do a search for it on line. We found at Walmart some clear pitchers that had centers that could be frozen so that the drinks (juices & such) can be kept cold.
References :
You want to have a back up plan in case it rains...
maybe rent tents. If it rains and the guest have no place for cover-then they will think it's tacky. The same goes with no place to use the bathroom. It's always easier for men...having your wedding in the public park sounds beautiful...we had a destination wedding..I love the onlookers...you're the bride...and you're suppose to get all the attention..I say bring it on!!!
Brunch ideas: Belgium waffles, fruit, shrimp cocktail, quiche, yogurt parfait w/ granola, danish, coffees, teas, lemonade, mimosas(champagne & orange juice) serve food that doesn't require heating...
References :
I think it is fine! My ideal wedding would be outside with an outside reception, but with a place to get in incase of bad weather.
As for food for a brunch I think of muffins, fruit salad, maybe breakfast casserole (that would be easy to keep warm under those lil oil burners) ham, danishes ect...

congrats and hope it turns out to be a wonderful day for you and many years of happyness!
References :
No it isn't tacky and it is your wedding. It should be exactly what you want. I had my wedding in a public park and once people saw they just moved on. It was actually very beautiful and relaxing. You can set up games for kids like croquet (a picture of you and your husband dressed up and playing would be beautiful)
Make sure that their are restroom available for people to use (preferably ones with running water- not porta potties!)
Look around for a caterer in my experience the best ones are the small businesses who rely on word of mouth. As far as an outdoor brunch goes you can serve fruit tartlets and french toasts. Glazed ham would also be nice and can be prepared in advance.
