Wedding Planning Secrets

Hey everyone,

I’m getting married the end of may. I want my ceremony to be outside and my reception inside. or should I also have it outside??

the theme of my wedding is EXTREMELY ROMANTIC. I want everything to be ultra romantic and candle-lite ect.
So I am just looking for cheap and creative ideas. my budget is $10,000 for the ceremony and reception- but the more money we save the better honeymoon we get :-) so we are both trying to save every penny we can.

thank you soo much for any tips/ ideas/ advice/ do & don’t it’s VERY helpful!!!

:-) :-) :-)

Hello, I am also planning my wedding. But i do have experience helping others plan their wedding as well. Here’s a few tips:

–all prices are negotiable
– cut any unnecessary expenses
– make your own invitations( its so easy)
– buffet style receptions are cheaper
– marthasteward.com/weddings( very good for creativity)
– sunday and thursday weddings are half the price

hmmm depending on where you live may can be kind of tricky. I live in the U.S. northeast (have all my life) and I’ve experienced mays that were amazingly beautiful and warm and spring-like and other mays where it was threatening to snow (yes snow in may) depending on your area it might be safer to plan an indoor reception.

-have your wedding at your home, or your/his parents home saving the cost of rent on any venue.
-have an early afternoon wedding and the reception can be a tea where the only liquor required is wine or champagne for the toast! the only food required would be perhaps appies and a couple of desserts! no dancing so you won’t need a band or a d.j.
-have a more casual wedding so that you can eliminate the cost of an expensive gown and your man can get away with a regular business suit instead of having to rent a tuxedo!
-do your own invitations - lots of beautiful ones in the shops that you can use as opposed to ordering from a printer
-limit your guest list - have a small intimate wedding with family and close friends
-silk flowers are less expensive than fresh. you can make your own bouquets quite inexpensively and they are dead easy to do! if interested you can send me a message and i’ll be glad to help out via email if i can
-limit your attendants so that you don’t have to spend as much on bouquets and boutonnieres
-centerpieces can be inexpensive and double as wedding favors by using clear glass serving bowls and filling them with werthers candy. the werthers are individually wrapped in gold foil and a $12. bag will fill a bowl easily - giving you enough candy for at least ten guests. you put a pretty little organza bag at each place setting and the guests help themselves. the gold foil sparkles prettily in candle light or twinkle lights.
-consider having your wedding outside the peak ‘wedding’ season
there are so many ways to save money and you should be able to have a very nice wedding for well under half your $10,000.00 - leaving you with a very nice honeymoon fund!
    good luck and happy wedding!

Enjoy yourself in this process. This is for you and your future spouse, so remember it as the best day ever because you guys loved everything about it. Don’t aim for expensive if it’s not something you want. Don’t stick to traditions in the program if it’s not what you want.

Really…focus every decision around what you as a couple want. Everyone will forget the wedding in a few weeks anyway…you will remember it for a lifetime.

My wife and I went into our wedding with this perspective and we are so thankful. It was everything we wanted because we spent money where we wanted and went cheap where we wanted.

Also, save some of that $10,000 for your honeymoon. It will make it even more fun. The wedding is one day; The honeymoon is much longer and more fun, so splurge there instead!

Hope this is a helpful reminder. BEST WISHES!

I’m also getting married. I would suggest that you will do the reception outside and to make it romantic, the place will be lighted with candles or mini lamps that you could buy in low price in market. Also, you could ask your relatives and friends to make the give aways and invitations for your wedding, make some research on the Internet to give you ideas on these stuffs.

For food in the reception, try to gather lots of information in all restaurants near your area, identify which restaurants do offer wedding package or give discounts for weddings. Good luck!

If it is outside with candles, then have it on a nice beach at dusk. And, if you are not rich spending $10,000 on a wedding is nonsense. You can put it toward your home. Weddings come and go.
