OK.. so I just realized yesterday that my honey and I are getting married ON THE SOLSTICE!!! I had no idea…we were just pushing forward a week so that we wouldn't be getting married on Friday the 13th! So I am totally OVER JOYED because this the Day of all Days to get married. I'm looking for any quick and CHEAP ways to honor eachother in light of the Solstice…. decorations, goodies to eat/drink, etc…. We live in the city, both work full time and it's a small intimate BBQ as a reception. SOoooo… i'm stoked!!!! If anyone has any tips OR astrological advise, it would be greatly appreciated!!! BY the way, the moon will be in Sag i hear - so any info on how that will affect the 8-22 Leo Cusp Bride and Nov. 29 Sag Groom - that would be GREAT! Happy Solstice everyone!!! YAY!! OMG… it is soooooooo cool that we didn't even plan it like that but it worked itself out!!! sorry - i love him to pieces and I'm soo tickled that we're getting married!

Congratulations.

This is acutally quite hard. The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year and is what many think of as the beginning of their vacation.

Decorate with colors and images of the of the summer. I think of blues, orange and yellow (for the bright sun) and greens (for trees). Have beach and pinic items around.

Look up sites about the Solstice to see what is a traditional celebration and food.

Have a fun and happy marriage.

Hi suga_buzz, Happy "early" Birthday! 1st off, go and buy everything you can afford…the "day after" Halloween. Hit all the stores you can, because everything is 75% off at least! I like the idea of the "Dead Bride"…because that is the "IN" costume this year. I don't know how to make fake blood (that isn't going to be a messy…mess?) We used "Ketchup" when I was young! The corn-syrup is a "no-go" in my opinion, way to sticky. But "Dead Brides" aren't really that bloody are they? Except for maybe the point of injury (stabbed in back, gun shot etc.) She just may have been "SCARED" to death…shuk shuk shuk…ha ha ha…LOL! j/k! Anyway, use lots of white/gray make-up, dark-circles under your eyes, ripped/tattered dress, black silk flower bouquet, [or] spray-paint some real flowers black (right before the party), long gloves (rubbed in dirt/distressed looking), big "fake" diamond ring. Maybe you could get a old/cheap "fake" pearl/bead necklace and melt some of it? Hope you have a great safe…"Happy Halloween"! XOXO Moonpie P.S. If you live near a "COSTCO" they have the clear "forms" that the bathing-suits hang on, those make great jello, plaster, rubber etc…molds! You can adorn them during the process (before they set). That would make for some awesome corpses!

So I'm thinking about doing a fantasy land garden theme for my wedding. I still haven't decided if I want to do it outside, or in a church. I was thinking that my colors could be purple and green. Does anyone have some good ideas of how I can pull this off? And what type of decorations/favors I could use. I was thinking 5,000-6,000 for a buget. We are poor as you can see! LOL. What are some good penny pinching tips?
Yes as in the play….but not really. Nothing with the donky or any of that….just more like a fantasy garden type.

Purple/Lavenders are beautiful colors for a fantasy garden theme, That color popped in my head before I finished your question.

1. Lots of candle light, lighting is important, make sure it's pretty dim so that the light off the candles really pop.

2.Incorporate candles in your center pieces. Buy glass bowls fill them half way with water, put a few flowers in it with floating candles. If you don't want to put whole flowers you could just put flower peddles to cut down on cost.

3. In craft stores they sale bags of fake leaves & flowers, you can buy rope then hot glue the leaves & flowers to the rope (more leaves than flowers, it looks better) then string them around like vines, you could also make like a canipy type thing over dance floor or tables, just string up a few christmas lights with the ropes to make it pop ( not too much remember the candle lighting).

4.I don't know where you live but look for a mom & pop florist store they have better prices than the big chains. If you decide to have any floral bouquets done.

5. At the craft store Michaels they sell fake bouquets, for the bridesmaids if any. My friend did that & in person nor in the pictures could you tell they were fake.

6. Favors I would buy cute little boxes & put them in a candy station. Its not expensive, Just buy a few dozen bags of candy hersey kisses, peanutbutter cups, etc..etc.. My sis did this for her wedding came out to be like maybe $200 dollars. Its alot cheaper than most favors. Put the candy in different size glass bowls & jars it looks nice.

I HOPE THIS HELPS, WHEN YOU DECIDE ON A FEW THINGS COME BACK & POST THEM FOR MORE FEED BACK. GOOD LUCK & CONGRATS ON FINDING THAT SPECIAL SOMEONE TO SPEND THE REST OF YOUR LIFE WITH!!!!

a reservoir for an oil lamp?

I am trying to make oil lamps out of conch shells for decorations and to give away as favors for my wedding. I don't think it will be that difficult with a little trial and error, but I just want to get some ideas as to what kind of sealant I should use to close off the tip of the shell so that I can drill a hole and put oil and a wick into it. Only genuine suggestions please…no smarta*s snide remarks. :] Thanks.

****By the way******
There is a company that has a patent for the process of sealing the shell in order to make an oil reservoir, and I just want to be clear that I am in no way trying or hoping to steal that patent. I would purchase the shells from that unnamed company but I don't have enough $$$ in my wedding budget to spend $20-30/shel

clear silicone works really well. I make rock lamps and that is what I use. 1 tube will last you a long time.

My mother and I were discussing the possibility of using silk flowers for the bouquets and decorations versus buying costly flowers that are just going to die anyway. We think it's more cost effective and I don't mind working on bouquets, as long as I have some ideas and tips on how to go about it.

What would be good to use as far as silk flowers and supplies? I am pretty crafty but I haven't ever worked with silk flowers. If you can offer flower suggestions and ideas, let me know!
We are planning on making a trip to Michael's craft store tomorrow to pick out the cake topper and would like to try and get the flowers picked out in the same trip.
I might plan on using cala lillies and stephanotis for the flowers.
It may be decided that we order them, however I am pretty crafty enough to do it on my own. If there is something too hard to tackle on our own, we may just order a few things like table decorations.

I made all the flower arrangements for my wedding last April including the bouquets. I used artificial rose blooms and buds in yellow and pink. I also used tiny clear bead sprays for accents and white ostrich plumes. I purchased all of my supplies from Hobby Lobby, but you should be able to find the same thing in Michaels. Just pick up different types of flowers that you like and see if they look pretty together. Choose enough so that you have full bouquet in your hands. You will need wire cutters, floral wire, floral tape, and ribbon so purchase these as well. The best ribbon to use is the kind with a little texture on at least one side. The very silky kind is hard to work with. If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me.

Well my fiance and I were thinking of just doing a Vegas wedding and then having a reception with family and friends. Now I think I would regret it if I didn't have a traditional wedding. Anyone have any tips to save money at the wedding. My friend said she can help me make decorations. I don't want it to be cheap looking, but I don't need it "over the top"
Thanks for the advice!!

:O)

Here is what I'm doing:

- Printing my own save-the-dates and invitations (you can buy cards or pre-boxed invite packs at Office Depot, Target, etc. - Target's always the cheapest, but they don't have a big selection).

- I'm buying my dress online: http://stores.ebay.com/gianinarbridal
My fiance's sister already got her dress from this site, and is very happy with it - fits her perfectly.

- Having my wedding on a Sunday at a restaurant (the restaurant where my fiance and I met) - Sunday is cheaper for the dinner by $10/person compared to having it on a Saturday, plus they throw in the ceremony set up at the restaurant for free.

- I'll either buy 100 or so flowers in bulk and make the bouquets myself, or get it at Costco, which I hear is also cheap and still nice.

- Doing red and white for my colors, so I can buy stuff after Christmas and Valentine's Day (mark-downs!) to use for decorations (ribbon, etc.). Plus red's my favorite color. And we are allowed to get to the restaurant early to decorate it ourselves, rather than paying someone to do it.

- We will limit the open bar to one or two hours, not the entire evening.

- We're keeping the guest list relatively small. I originally wanted about 40, but my fiance's family is big, so it's gonna be more like 70-80.

That's all I can think of right now.

Good luck, and congrats!

Edit: Also, I just remembered, we haven't decided on what we're doing for music ourselves, but you can get an ipod or laptop and hook up some speakers for music instead of getting a DJ.

I am having my wedding very soon my money is not the best i still have to impressed my dad's side of the family because they all have lots of money and my dad said if your gonna look poor dont invite my familly i was very sad when he said that its like he was emberrest by me.Just need tips that looks rich i will be receiving 60 people andf i have $200.00 for decoration cant get more.thank you ps my dad dont want to help paid and my mom his past away my dad sais its the man that you are gona married that you should bother leave me alone

Sorry about your Dad not helping you! I would check the dollar stores and craft stores they have lots of items at a reasonable price. Do you have a friend who could burn a mix CD for you- a package of 100 is cheap and you can make nice inserts on the computer with your names on it and then just put your favorite love songs on it-a lot of people like that! Good luck!
