Can anyone give me tips on how to network properly in order to become a free lance makeup artist? I am interested in print and bridal. I am not interested in counter jobs. At the present I am an administrative assistant but I love the idea of being able to freelance. Thanks for the input, wish me luck
You do not need to go to school to become a makeup artists. Most professionals have not.
A good site to start with is modelmayhem.com It's a very good networking site and has a lot of advice and forums for just about anything you would want to know. Expect to work for free for a long while to get the practice and images for your portfolio. This is called TFP. (Time For Pictures) or TFCD (Time For CD of the pictures) This is a great way to learn a lot on how makeup changes from every day looks to photography makeup. You will also meet a lot of other people in the industry. (Models photographers, stylists etc)
Best of Luck!

i require valuable tips regarding bengali bridal make-up for a fairgirl.she wants a clean matte-makeup,bunned hair and her focal point her her eyes.she is of broad frame.for bengalis it is customary to draw alpana or motif or bindi all over her forehead.the base of the motif is white with a hue of colours here and there.please suggest some tips along with pictures.the main problem is that for the motif these days all are using fabric or poster colour which is very harmful for skin.please suggest some alternative.someone suggested "gerimati " to another answer sekker but i don't know what it is.
alternatively one can suggest good makeup artistes in bangalore and kolkata.
For perfect photos, apply foundation evenly. Use a long lasting matte finish and end with a dusting of pressed powder. Be sure to keep pressed powder handy for touch up; you don't want a shiny nose or forehead in your pictures! Remember to match powder to your foundation color. Be sure to blend it well along the jaw line.
Avoid heavy eyeliner - it'll only make your eyes look smaller. Pass on false eyelashes, too. They can cast a shadow beneath the eyes. Instead, accent the outer corner of eyes with black or gray eyeliner.
Choose bridal makeup that's on the understated side. Our best suggestion, select a professional makeup artist with experience in bridal photography.
Because skin tends to break out or look flushed after a facial, be sure to schedule your facial at least one week before your wedding.
To keep your hands soft, apply our rich non greasy Hand Crème before going to bed, then put on a pair of white cotton gloves. While you sleep, the gloves will hold in body heat and help the hand crème penetrate. In the morning, you hands will feel softer and smoother.
