We are planning a wedding. I want to spend around 5,000. I still want it to look beautiul. Any tips? Where can I get an affordable dress etc?
Well this is my field - so here are my best tips for a very tight budget:
Afternoon tea receptions are really lovely, and cost MUCH less than an evening reception. And in fact, I have heard people say that was their favorite type to attend (no sitting for hours, bored). Brunch receptions are also great, but you have to wake up so early.
An outside ceremony where guests stand (the hiring of chairs and decor add up fast, and u can let nature be it’s own decor if it’s a lovely setting)
Don’t have bridesmaids (or just have one) as it all adds up (flowers, hair & makeup)
Get inspired for your stationary and make them yourselves.
Buy wholesale blooms (flower markets or at a flower farm - find in yellow pages) and have a friend/family member bunch/arrange them.
Use more than just flowers for reception centerpieces - apples, etc can be poked onto sticks and arranged with flowers to fill them out, and give a modern look, while saving you heaps!
As for your dress, I don’t know where you live, but I have heard horror stories about buying from the web!
Below are great sites for inspiration and info …
The Affordable but Comfortable Tropical Honeymoon: Tip List
1. Schedule your departure day two days after the wedding to give you ample time for rest after the activities and the celebrations. If you must travel immediately, remember to leave in the middle of the day and not the early morning so you’ll get a good night’s sleep.
2. Ask your travel Agent for Honeymoon Packages, these usually offer the best destinations for honeymooners, not to mention discounts and freebies.
3. Never, ever overbook day trips, you’re not just traveling, you’re with your new Spouse, better save up some energy for the night’s fireworks.
4. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, ask about certain perks, events.
5. In addition to the above, don’t be afraid to request extra stuff, like a big bathtub, a double bed, or a romantic view.
6. Don’t forget to bring your marriage Certificate along with you, especially if the name of the bride is already under her husband’s name.
7. Pack your camera and lots of film; you won’t want to miss anything. You might also want to pack a disposable underwater camera and extra batteries, these are absurdly pricey in tourist spots, and you wouldn’t want to overspend.
8. Mention to anyone, especially in the café or in the tour boat, that you’re on your honeymoon, yes this may sound a bit embarrassing, but some restaurants give extras like free drinks or gifts for honeymooners. This also works for birthday celebrants.
10. If you want an active honeymoon, research and prepare for water sports; the tropics are a great place, to learn them, always remember to consult hubby before you try one though.
11. Stock up on sun protection. The higher the SPF the better, as you’ll probably be spending whole days out in the sun; you wouldn’t want to get skin cancer after just two weeks of marriage.
12. Some travel agencies include island hopping trips, these are great ways to explore, and enjoy. This is especially good because you’ll get a change in scenery, and won’t easily get bored, especially if you have an extended honeymoon.
13. Even if your valuables are inside your hotel room, keep them under lock, and if you decide to bring them with you, always watch out for stray pickpockets.
14. Bring with you a stock of candles and massage oils that you can place inside your hotel room for that romantic evening after touring and swimming.
And finally, have some fun, relax and enjoy youself.
I’ve been asked to take some photographs for a small local record label. (it’s a bunch of soloist hip hop and R&B singers) I’ve only been asked because I’m a friend with a decent camera. I’m not by any means a photographer!
If anyone can help me further, it would be greatly appreciated!
I need to purchase a new lens today/tomorrow (and pray it arrives in time for Thursday), as my trusty 18-55mm broke yesterday. I had planned on doing so anyway. I have a couple of projects coming up for friends.
So, which lens should I buy? I have the 50mm f/1.8 AF D, which I have read is good for concert photography? What other lens could I buy which is affordable for someone who doesn’t intend to go professional? I was hoping to spend no more than £200GBP, and would like it to come in use for other things (I have a wedding coming up, and also doing some portrait shots for the artists too, after the live gig, and take photographs daily of my kids), although this isn’t a huge concern right now. My first project is the live gig, and that’s what I’d like to focus on with getting the lens right.
Does anyone have any tips for concert photography? I’m imagining with the dark room and available light always changing, it’s going to be difficult, so I’d appreciate anything you guys can throw at me. Do I use a flash? Someone was horrified I didn’t have one, but I thought the mood of the photographs would be better with the stage lighting? Should I buy one?
Sorry, I use the Nikon D50
First of all, a 50mm lens is a bit too wide for concerts unless you go virtually right up to the stage. A 200mm and up would be more decent. I doubt an indoor theatre environment would allow a flash, but if they do, buy one. They’re not cheap however, costing $300 or more for good ones. Keep in mind that ambient lighting is fairly dark, which equals to slower shutter speeds in blur. To combat this, get a “fast” lens with an aperture of 2.8 or less. Image stabilization is also recommended. Furthermore, toggle the iso settings to 400 or more. Keep in mind that at higher isos, the image also degrades.
i'd really like to get a sterling silver purity ring that isn't a warning saying "don't come near me" but rather a reminder to me to stay pure. so i'd rather it not have a cross.
i'd love for it to be affordable (under $100) with some 'cz' (cubic zirconia) on it that is pretty and realistic. I'd also love it to not look like a gaudy wedding ring, but pretty and young.
any tips?
I got a purity ring too! and I had the same problem. but don't get sterling silver, get white gold. It looks like silver but its better quality. You're probably better off just finding a ring that you like. (Wal-Mart and JCPennies carry decent and usually inexpensive ones) When you find one that you like just get it engraved, putting something like pure or whatever. that's what I did. At first we looked on websites for rings that were designed for that specific reason and all of them seemed either too gaudy or like you said "don't come near me". However, a purity ring is supposed to be special so it should be a little prettier than an average ring but not as extravagant as a wedding ring. and you may end up spending a little over $100 for it, But if it's what you want and it's for something special like this.. You kind of deserve it.
Hi there - I am getting married in 2.5 months and need to get bridesmaids dresses (2 ladies, one 9 year old, one 7 year old and one 1 year old).
This is not wedding season so the shops I was counting on have no off the peg bridal, and the xmas party dresses are flying out the shops - I can't find all the sizes that I need. I am not even trying to match them all - just keep them similar, ie all blue or all white and gold and so on.
Does any one have any tips, where can I look?
Plus I have the world's smallest budget so am going to have to find these in high street stores, not posh wedding shops.
Thanks
Who says the dresses have to match? I think matching dresses is silly now. Plus, the bridesmaids rarely wear the dresses again. I think you should pick a color (black, navy, beige) and ask everyone to go out and purchase a long/street length (you decide the length) dress for themselves. Then, they will all wear the same color but will have clothes they like. Bridesmaids in the U.S. buy their own gowns anyway.
I'm so overwhelmed with thinking of my wedding and how to plan it, and was wondering if anybody would have any tips on here…
Like about dresses and fittings and what not.. do you try your dresss months ahead then have them taylored about a month before the wedding? or do you just wait until a month or so and try the dress…
and How do you go about decorating? did you hire someone or do it yourself and was it affordable?
I don't even know of any songs… it's so frustrating….
And Please, if You can't say anything nice, don't say it at all. I'm asking this question to try and get ideas, so thanks to anybody who can help ^_^
the wedding is most likely going to be July of 2008
You should purchase your dress no later than 6 months before the wedding, in order to allow time for alterations. Whatever store you purchase it from should be able to also do the alterations.
As for decorating, you can do that yourself. Hiring a wedding planner would probably take this stress off of you. He/She will probably save you more money that they'll charge you and help you design your perfect wedding, within money and time constraints.
You should start planning ASAP if you're planning on July '08.
Congrats! :o)
My finacee and I are looking for an affordable place to have a wedding in San Diego and I don't want to hire a wedding coordinater because we don't have the money to do that. But we want something special and fun. …so this means i'll be doing everything myself. I've found it to be quite stressful so far lol. Anyone have any helpful tips for a nice affordable san diego wedding that isn't in balboa park?
